Charles Ross Half-Standard

A cross between Cox Orange Pippin x Peasgood Nonsuch raised by Charles Ross in Derbyshire.  First exhibited in 1890.  The attractive, large fruits are crisp, juicy, sweet and full of flavour.  A useful mid-season apple as it is dual purpose and the flesh will stay in tact when cooked with little or no sugar required.  The trees are fairly vigorous and resistant to apple scab.
