ESTIMATED TO BE READY IN AUTUMN
Our family trees are a clever way of growing more fruit in a small place as they have three varieties of apple grafted on one tree! We have selected three varieties that will work together in terms of pollination and vigour to achieve a lovely balanced shape and to fill the fruit bowl.
PITMASTON PINEAPPLE
The small russeted apples have a rich and distinct flavour. Hints of honey with a nuttiness and notes of pineapple. Raised by Mr White, steward to Lord Foley at Witley, England in about 1785. Introduced by Williams of Pitmaston, Worcester.
SPARTAN
A Canadian originating apple raised in 1926 in Summerland, British Columbia. A cross from McIntosh x Yellow Newtown Pippin. Introduced in 1936. The fruits are attractive, deep scarlet in colour with firm, rich, sweet and juicy flesh that is tasty and refreshing. The apples are of medium size and the trees are notoriously good croppers that are reliable being grown in the North.
WYKEN PIPPIN
Said to have been raised by Lord Craven from seed of a continental apple and planted at Wyken near Coventry. First described in the early 1700s. Fruits have creamy white, firm, fine-textured, juicy flesh with a sweet and aromatic flavour. Father to Laxton's Superb!
