Bishop's Thumb Pear - Bush

A real Heritage Pear first recorded c1683 in a nursery between Spitalfields and Whitechapel in London, referenced by the cookery writer Mrs Martha Bradley in 1756.  Also known by the synonym "Bishop's Tongue".

Joan Morgan in her Book of Pears describes the flesh as "melting and juicy, sweet-sharp becoming sweeter with some perfume".
