Guardsman Crab Apple - 3-4 year old tree

A rare and distinctive crab apple, quite unlike many others, with wonderful maple-shaped foliage and spectacular autumn colour.

‘Guardsman’ has a naturally narrow, upright habit and unusual deeply lobed, maple-like green leaves. In late spring to early summer it produces large, lightly fragrant white flowers, making it a particularly useful tree for extending the crab apple blossom season.

Small moss-green fruits follow, but it's the foliage that really makes this tree special. As autumn arrives, the leaves develop fabulous shades of scarlet, crimson, red and orange, creating a wonderful seasonal display.

Its relatively narrow habit also makes ‘Guardsman’ an interesting choice where you would like the beauty and wildlife benefits of a crab apple without an overly spreading tree.
