Prunus Cerasifera Pissardii - Ornamental Cherry

Prunus cerasifera ‘Pissardii’ is a striking ornamental cherry plum, prized for its rich purple foliage and beautiful spring blossom. An excellent choice for adding year-round structure and contrasting colour to the garden, it makes an attractive small to medium-sized tree with a naturally rounded habit.

In early spring, delicate pale pink flowers appear across the branches, creating a wonderful display before and alongside the emerging foliage. These are followed by deep purple-red leaves that retain their distinctive colour throughout the growing season. Small, plum-like fruits may occasionally develop later in the year and can provide an additional source of interest for wildlife.

‘Pissardii’ is a hardy and reliable tree that grows well in most fertile, well-drained soils. It performs best in a sunny position, where the foliage develops its richest colour, although it will also tolerate some light shade. Once established, it requires relatively little maintenance.

Its combination of spring blossom and long-lasting purple foliage makes it particularly effective as a specimen tree, planted along driveways and boundaries, or used to introduce contrasting colour amongst green-leaved trees and shrubs.
