ESTIMATED TO BE READY IN LATE SPRING/SUMMER
A sport of Cox Orange Pippin bred to have more disease resistance than the original. Sunset was raised in Ightham in Kent from a pip of Cox Orange Pippin and was named in 1933. Trees are hardy but have a more compact growing habit than the original. Cropping is reliable and regular, thin the fruitlets to achieve apples of a decent size. The apples have the aromatic, flavour that is characteristic of its parent and are juicy and refreshing. The blossom alone is a reason to plant this superb variety, being very ornamental and pink in colour. Self-fertile variety so no pollination partner required.
